Day 10: For today’s RAW or Random Act of Wildness, The Wildlife Trusts’ 30 Days Wild app has chosen: Keep a note of wildlife. The subheading being: list of species that you see from your window. I really enjoy participating in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch. So I took an hour to watch the visitors to the yarden this June.
During the hour I watched as a hoard of starlings and their young attacked the fat balls on offer. A stately four goldfinches enjoyed the sunflower hearts and at least two male house sparrows and a female visited the yarden seeking food for their young. I had as always, a mass of pigeons gobbling up what was left behind and the odd bumblebee, tree and buff-tailed dodged flapping bird wings as they sought out the cat mint and bellflowers. I don’t doubt that Steven the ‘sea’gull was around, listening to when David or I was in the kitchen before he started begging for food.
Have you spent an hour watching your garden? What species do you have visiting regularly?
Thanks for reading, and stay wild!
